Frank's duty as a messenger is to deliver bad news to the residents of Karmack because they no longer have the ability to do it themselves. Adapted from Lars Saabye Christensen's 2012 novel, Sluk, The Middle Man is a darkly comedic social satire set in a small town where a series of accidents, deaths, and unfortunate events occur. Pål Sverre Hagen, a Norwegian theater and film actor, portrays Frank. Directed by Bent Hamer, known for films like O'horten, Factotum, Kitchen Stories, and Eggs, and serving as the president of the International Competition jury at this year's Istanbul Film Festival, The Middle Man had its premiere at the 2021 Toronto Film Festival and was filmed in Canada.
